LEXINGTON, Ohio – After multiple days of testing at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Team Pelfrey turned their attention to the race event for Rounds 10, 11, and 12 of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda and Rounds 12 and 13 of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires.

Although the final results were not in line with the expectations for the weekend, the highlights of the event were top-five finishes for Sting Ray Robb and Julian van der Watt. Kyle Dupell and Bruna Tomaselli both showed exceptional speed at stages throughout the weekend, while Andres Gutierrez suffered an unfortunate wrist injury which prevented him from competing in the final Pro Mazda race of the weekend.

“The wheel-to-wheel racing action here at Mid-Ohio was awesome. The #PelfreyPower team had the car dialed in and we had some good pace.  We worked our way from 9th to 4th and almost had that podium finish.  We’ll carry this momentum with us to Gateway so we will be gunning and running there. Thanks to all my supporters that keep me on the track racing.  I wouldn’t be here without them.”

  • Race 2: DID NOT CONTEST

“This weekend was the worst I’ve had in a long time. After a double DNF in Toronto because of things that were not in my control, I wanted to have a clean weekend with good results in Mid-Ohio. On Thursday, since the first lap I rode around the track, I started getting uncomfortable with my right wrist, but at the time it was nothing major. It kept hurting more and more each time I went out on track. On Friday, I went to see the doctors and they told me it was a sprain, they gave me medication and shots but they didn’t work as planned. Both qualifying sessions I was in pain, which affected my performance on track greatly. In race one, I struggled a lot with my wrist and ended up hurting it more because Mid-Ohio is a very physical track with a lot of high speed corners that require a lot of strength to handle the car. After race one, my family and I made the decision to not contest in race two and head back to Mexico for medical attention to avoid further injuries. Although it was a tough decision, I believe it was the best for my health and safety. I would like to thank Team Pelfrey for being very supportive throughout the weekend and being there through my struggles. I’ll be back, and better than ever!”
