ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Turn 3 Motorsport wrapped up a competitive tripleheader weekend at Road America, earning multiple top-10 finishes across all three races and showcasing resilience in the face of adversity. Leading the charge was Alessandro de Tullio, who climbed from 16th on the grid in Race 3 to finish fifth, earning the Tilton Hard Charger Award and valuable championship points. He now sits fourth in the USF Pro 2000 Presented by Continental Tire championship standings with six rounds remaining.
The team fielded five cars at its home race in Elkhart Lake, including British driver Joseph Loake making his series debut in place of Brady Golan. Loake impressed immediately with a top-five finish in Race 1 before misfortune derailed a promising Race 3. Meanwhile, Nicholas Monteiro delivered another consistent performance, finishing sixth in the final race to continue his strong run of form.
Cooper Becklin and Tyke Durst both delivered solid, forward-moving drives throughout the event, with Becklin returning to the top 10 in Race 3 and Durst continuing to show growth in his sophomore season. The entire Turn 3 lineup brought home clean finishes and competitive drives on the legendary 4.014-mile road course.
Race 1 Recap
The weekend kicked off with strong pace across the board. After starting P8, Loake made an impressive charge on the opening lap, climbing to fourth and settling into a rhythm just ahead of teammate de Tullio in fifth. Monteiro also made early progress, gaining two positions from P10 to P8.
On Lap 6, de Tullio overtook Loake for fourth, while Monteiro began battling the #88 car of Max Taylor in a tight midfield fight. Unfortunately, Monteiro’s race ended early when a stuck pedal sent him off track and into the gravel on Lap 13. Meanwhile, Becklin recovered from a tough start to finish 13th, and Durst kept things clean in 14th.
At the front, de Tullio held onto P4 at the line, with Loake right behind him in P5 to earn a top-five result in his USF Pro 2000 debut.
Race 2 Recap
Race 2 presented a bigger challenge, as de Tullio was disqualified from qualifying due to a post-session weight infraction, forcing him to start from the back of the grid in P18. Meanwhile, Loake, Monteiro, Becklin and Durst all began in strong midfield positions and quickly settled into battle.
Loake made an aggressive move for third early on but ran wide and dropped back to P15. Monteiro and Becklin held firm in the top 10 while de Tullio carved his way through the field, moving up seven spots in the opening laps. A full-course yellow on Lap 4 bunched the field and gave the Miami native a chance to reset for a charge.
De Tullio ultimately crossed the line in sixth after a clean, assertive drive, while Loake recovered to eighth. Becklin finished 11th, Monteiro 12th and Durst 15th, keeping all five cars on track and in the mix heading into Race 3.
Race 3 Recap
The final race of the weekend brought more drama and more strong drives. Loake started fourth but made contact with another car on the opening lap, resulting in rear suspension damage that dropped him to 18th and forced a DNF in his final race of the weekend. Monteiro took over as the team’s frontrunner, jumping to P4 in the early laps, while de Tullio made a stunning charge from 16th to break into the top t10 by Lap 3.
As the race unfolded, de Tullio continued his climb and fought his way into the top five. Monteiro stayed in the fight despite dropping to sixth in a chaotic final stretch. Becklin and Durst also battled forward, with Becklin making a last-lap move on his teammate to finish 10th and Durst just behind in 11th.
At the checkered flag, de Tullio claimed P5 and the Tilton Hard Charger Award after gaining 11 positions. Monteiro added another P6 finish to his growing string of top-10 results.
#44 Alessandro De Tullio // USF Pro 2000 Astropay
“Road America was a tough tripleheader for us. We had a decent start with a P4 in Race 1, but after being disqualified in Qualifying 2, we had to start at the back of the grid for the final two races. Even so, we managed to fight back for a P6 and another top-five finish, which were solid points given the circumstances. While it wasn’t our strongest weekend pace-wise, I’m incredibly grateful to the whole team—especially Peter and my mechanic Neil—for their nonstop effort and hard work all weekend. We’ll be back stronger.”
#3 Joseph Loake // USF Pro 2000
“It was great to be out with the team for Road America. I felt like I fit straight in, like I hadn’t left, which was great. Of course, we were hoping for more from our weekend. As a team, we struggled to find the sweet spot with the car, but I think we did a good job trying to maximize everything we could with what we had. All in all, it was great to be back out with the team, and I hope I get the opportunity to jump in the car again in the future!”
#22 Nicholas Monteiro // USF Pro 2000 Pegcard
“It was a solid weekend overall with three more races in the books. We had some really competitive moments, and grabbing another top-six finish in Race 3 felt like a good way to close things out. There were definitely some ups and downs, but the pace was there and we kept fighting. I’m proud of how the team kept pushing and I’m looking forward to building on this momentum at Mid-Ohio.”
#2 Cooper Becklin // USF Pro 2000 Helmet House
“Road America was a great learning weekend with a lot of takeaways to build on. We made solid progress each session and wrapped things up with a car that felt much stronger by the end. It wasn’t the weekend we hoped for results-wise, but I’m proud of the steps we took forward. I’m feeling confident heading into Mid-Ohio and ready to keep that momentum going.”
#33 Tyke Durst // USF Pro 2000 Freight Handlers Inc. / Relay Payments / Drive Toward a Cure
"Leaving Road America with a bit of a bittersweet taste. We showed decent pace throughout the weekend and were close to breaking into the top ten in Race 3, just missing out at the very end. While we didn’t quite get the results we were aiming for, there were positives to take away, and I’m proud of the effort the team put in. I’m really looking forward to getting back after it at Mid-Ohio in a couple weeks and turning those lessons into results."
Team Owner, Peter Dempsey
“Road America has typically been one of our strongest weekends over the past few years, but this weekend was certainly way more difficult for us than we expected. We just really never found the speed we needed to compete at the front. The heat and track conditions certainly hurt our performance. This was a huge learning experience for the whole team, and it will only make us stronger for the remainder of the season. I really appreciate the effort from the team and drivers to try our best to turn the weekend around. Nobody ever gave up, and we fought to the end. Now we will focus on Mid-Ohio and aim to get back to the front and challenge for wins next week.”
Turn 3 Motorsport will now shift focus to the next event on the USF Pro 2000 Championship calendar at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 3–6, where the team will look to build on the lessons learned at Road America and capitalize on their growing momentum. With the second half of the season underway and championship positions still well within reach, the team is ready to reset, refocus and come back fighting.
